Once upon a time there was a girl with a nose. Her nose and cold weather outside did not share a cordial relationship. As the mercury levels went down, the water levels inside the nose seemed to go up and often the girl ended up having a swollen & runny-nose and not to forget the puffy, red eyes. Sneezing and blowing the nose becomes a never ending affair, much to her discomfort & embarrassment (especially when there is a client sitting across her table or she is in a meeting). Very soon, her nose gets blocked and she loses all sense of smell & taste too. Constant rubbing leads to bruised skin around her nostrils & the area between her lips & nostrils and after sometime, even touching her nose became painful. She hated using nasal drops and inhaling menthol vapours provided only temporary relief. Also, sleeping at night became a difficult task for the girl as she had to breathe with her mouth and had to wake up many a times at night due to her parched throat.
In these tough times, the girl always remembered to do two things to get some relief – two homemade remedies used by her parents when she was a kid. The first one was to soak her feet in some salted hot water (the temperature of the water is kept up to the maximum bearable limit) and the second one was to apply garlic infused mustard oil in her nose, belly button and the soles of her feet. A pair of socks to cover her oily feet and she was warm & ready for bed. Also, dinner is usually some light gravy (chicken or egg curry) with lots of black pepper. And most of the times these methods/remedies worked for her and in rare cases when they didn’t, only then she opted for some medicines.
It is that time of the year again and her runny nose is back and as she types out this post with one hand, she is holding a handkerchief in her nose with the other hand.
Is there anyone else out there who have a similar nosy tale, I would love to hear about it in the comments section. 🙂
